Overview

About the Role

The School of Engineering & Materials Science embeds engineering design and manufacture throughout its delivery of education, also running a specialised undergraduate degree programme in Design, Innovation and Creative Engineering (DICE).

We are seeking an inspirational educator to drive forward delivery of design and manufacturing engineering approaches across the school, as part of our on-going programme development. The successful candidate will be able to educate students across the design process, covering innovation and design management to progress a product through key developmental phases.

We look for either well-respected industrialists with a research background, able to expand engineering professional practice within the school (Teaching & Professional Practice: T&PP route) or individuals with innovative pedagogical expertise in the delivery of design education to a diverse student population at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels (Teaching & Scholarship: T&S route). Both posts have a substantial involvement in education delivery with 25% allocated time for scholarship or professional practise.

About You

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant area, and/or equivalent track record in engineering/design professional practice.

Experience of delivering teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level and an understanding of student support needs are essential. Evidence of pedagogical activity associated with engineering education or of professional design would be of benefit, but future commitment to such activity is essential.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work-life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

The post is based at the Mile End campus in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment with an expected start from Spring 2023 onwards. The starting salary for Lecturers will be Grade 5/6, in the range of £44,931 - £55,805 per annum, or for Senior Lecturers, Grade 7 in the range £58,949 - £65,823, in both cases inclusive of London Allowance.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
