Lecturer Position in
Structural Engineering and Materials

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for a Lecturer Position under the Educator Track Scheme to start in August 2019. The candidate must, in addition to having expertise in Structural Engineering and Materials, show strong indication of teaching achievement as evidenced by a positive impact on student learning in higher educational settings, as well as commitment to collegial sharing of their work within the local educational environment.

As education is a core mission of the University, the Educator Track is conceived as a career progression path for excellent teachers and eduational leaders. The candidate should hold a doctorate in civil engineering and construction materials. In NUS, the general expectations for commitments to teaching for an academic staff on educator track is 2 times the normal teaching commitment of a Tenure Track staff, although the precise teaching commitment will be decided on a case-by-case basis depending on the needs of the Department, and the aptitude, potential, activity and achievements of the individual with respect to research. For Educator Track staff, some record of disciplinary research (particularly research that informs teaching) is considered an advantage and not a requirement on the Educator Track.

As the construction industry in Singapore has adopted the European codes (EC) in design, the candidate is expected to incorporate EC codes of practice in his undergraduate and graduate teaching. The candidate must be able to teach effectively in English. Relevant experience and professional qualifications (e.g. professional engineer) in civil engineering will be considered favorably. Candidates having expertise with teaching in an online or flipped classroom environment and/or good industry experience will have an added advantage.

NUS offers internationally competitive remuneration and benefits. Details of terms and benefits are available on http://www.nus.edu.sg/careers/whatyougettoenjoy.html.

Interested candidates should send their application, including a letter of interest, detailed curriculum vitae, statements of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching experience in higher education settings and contact information of three referees to:
