Summary of Duties

The Ohio State University at Mansfield invites applications from outstanding individuals for a full-time, non-tenure-track associated faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in the College of Engineering, Department of Integrated Systems Engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Teach two to four undergraduate courses per semester (depending on the level of service work described below, which may vary by semester) in the new Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (BSET) program on the Mansfield campus and hold regular office hours for students
• Collaborate with other BSET faculty and staff on service work to support the BSET program. Examples include helping develop and improve courses; coordinating academic oversight with the College of Engineering and other regional campuses; preparing for ABET / ETAC accreditation; and helping to expand and maintain experiential learning opportunities in the BSET program, including co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities with regional manufacturers.

Teaching responsibilities for this position will be exclusively at Ohio State Mansfield, which is one of the six campuses of The Ohio State University. Faculty on the Mansfield campus teach a diverse student population in a multi-disciplinary small-college environment, and they hold appointments in their academic departments at The Ohio State University. The new Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology program at Ohio State is designed to meet the growing demand for highly skilled college graduates who possess manufacturing engineering technology skills that integrate business and leadership principles with engineering processes and technical knowledge. This evidence-based, interdisciplinary program offers students the opportunity to learn in a hands-on, practical way that enables deep understanding.

Ohio State Mansfield is seeking a visionary engineer to help contribute to expanding and refining our one-of-a-kind BSET program. The most qualified individuals will not only have the required education and experience but will also be motivated, enthusiastic self-starters who have the ability to think both critically and creatively.

The engineering technology program trains students for manufacturing leadership roles by developing their ability to solve problems through an integration of the following skills:

• Applying appropriate engineering technologies and 21st-century tools
• Analyzing problems using a systems approach
• Bringing the needs of people into the equation
• Utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Employing effective business analysis of decisions in a local and global context
• Improving manufacturing processes to raise product quality and profitability

Required Qualifications

• An earned master’s or doctoral degree in mechanical, industrial, materials science, or manufacturing engineering
• Significant teaching and/or industrial experience involving robotics, electronics, manufacturing processes, or manufacturing management
• A commitment to and evidence of excellence in teaching; experience with under-represented groups and first-generation students preferred
• Program development experience a plus
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
