Position Description


The John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Harvard University seeks applicants for the position of Lecturer on Engineering Sciences for a one-year term position. This is a part-time appointment with an expected start date of January 1, 2020.

 

We invite applications from individuals with broad experience and expertise in design engineering, systems thinking and related design processes.

 

Typical Responsibilities:

• Teach or co-teach an undergraduate engineering course, Engineering Sciences 96: Engineering Problem Solving and Design Project
• Serve as a section leader for the Engineering Sciences 96 course or other SEAS design courses and mentor student teams working on design projects
• Participate in curricular planning discussions with other faculty and staff as it applies to engineering design education and hands-on project-based courses
• Hold office hours and work one-on-one with undergraduate students
• Advise students on engineering and design aspects of other course projects

 

Basic Qualifications
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or a related field.

 

Additional Qualifications
Candidates should have proven experience in design engineering, such as design process, CAD/CAM, materials, robotics, embedded systems, etc., and be able to demonstrate practical, hands-on experience. We seek candidates who have a strong passion for and commitment to working closely with undergraduate students. Previous experience working on design projects in industry a plus.
