We develop the individual's knowledge and ability to analyze, understand and handle various aspects of IT as well as the interaction between human and technology in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, digital innovation, e-Health, Internet of Things, mobile communication, robots, social media and IT in schools and teaching.

We provide education at Bachelor's and Master's level anchored in research and the development of society.

The department is located at the knowledge-intensive Lindholmen, and has a well-developed collaboration with both business and public sector as well as the civil society.

Cognition and communication at the department

The department conducts a broad research with an interest in human interaction and communication with relation to society's digitalization and social and cognitive conditions, at the individual, group and organizational level.

Research in Division of Cognition and Communication in the field of communication is primarily focused on organizational, intercultural and digital communication. The research in cognitive science links AI with machine learning and modeling of human cognition, emotion theory and multimodal interaction, with possible applications e.g. in decision support and autonomous systems.

All teaching at the department's program Master in Communication and the bachelor program in Cognitive Science reflects the strong research environment.

In both research and education, the department has a long tradition of working closely with industry and the public sector. The department hosts ICED Lab and is active in various collaborative projects on, among other things, Artificial Intelligence.

Cognitive science and informatics with a focus on programming

Job assignments

As an university lecturer, most of your work will consist of teaching-related tasks, i.e. teaching, administration, examination, course follow-up and course development. The role includes preparing, implementing, correcting and providing feedback on exercise and submission tasks.

For this post, we are primarily looking for someone who can teach programming for our students on the bachelor programs in cognitive science and systems science. In addition, there may be efforts on courses in AI and machine learning.


Eligible to be hired as a lecturer is the one who, partly, has shown pedagogical skills, and partly has undergone university education at advanced level as the lowest or has equivalent competence or any other skill that is relevant with regard to the subject content of the employment and the duties to be included in the employment.


In evaluating the applicants, subject matter competence in the relevant areas of the advertised post, i.e. programming, as well as teaching experience at university level and pedagogical competence will be taken into account. The applicant should be well acquainted with programming languages such as Python and Dart. Familiarity with machine learning and AI, with frameworks such as e.g. Tensorflow and PyTorch are also meritorious. Familiarity with development for mobile devices and frameworks such as Flutter is also considered meritorious.

We are looking for persons with a good ability to cooperate, high sense of responsebility, good planning skills and a pedagogical ability. 

The university will through this recruitment make a holistic assessment of aptitude and skills and select the applicant which is deemed to have the best pre-requisites to conduct and develop current tasks of the position, as well as contributing to a positive development of the division. 


One to two fixed-term employments (allmän visstid) during 12 months, with placement at the Department of Applied IT. 

Scope 100 %. Adjustment to a shorter period or a lower scope can be discussed during an interview. 
Start date 15th of September 2020 or according to agreement.
