Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Mineral Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering.
Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Teach undergraduate courses in Mineral Engineering in more than one of the following areas:
Physical Mineral Processes
Flotation
Extractive Metallurgy
Processing of Precious Metals
Diamond Processing Technology
Plant Process and Flowsheet Design
Process Control and Instrumentation
Tailings and Wastewater Disposal
Environment Management
Coal Preparation
Conduct and produce results of scholarly work, actively involving students at B. Eng. Degree level.
Carry out any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
Applicants must have:
A PhD in Mineral Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
A Master’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a Bachelor’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering
Registration or eligibility for registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB)
Evidence of engagement in research
Significant research output and mineral industry experience; evidence of governance and social engagement, as well as teaching experience at a university or comparable institution, will be added advantages
Note: In special circumstances, a Master’s degree with a Bachelor’s degree of at least 2(i) or equivalent may be considered. Significant research output and mineral industry experience will be an added advantage.
Candidates should have:
PhD in Mineral Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
Master’s degree in Mineral/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering with a Bachelor’s degree in the same field
Registered or eligible to be registered with a relevant engineering professional body
At least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution
An excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications, including at least 6 research products published by recognised publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognised indexing databases. Remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer-reviewed conference proceedings, etc.
An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals depending on publisher quality and standing
Sustained research output: minimum 1 peer-reviewed publication every 2 years
Scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences
Lead and/or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles
Publications spread nationally and/or internationally across journals
Some research impact (citations, h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, prescribed texts, etc.)
Recognised as at least national research standing (e.g., reviewer, editorial board member, keynote speaker at national/international conferences)
Evidence of governance and social engagement
Registered or eligible to register with ERB as a Professional Engineer
Additional Considerations:
Research awards and other forms of research recognition where appropriate will be an added advantage
The CV should contain a detailed list of published works specifying:
Titles of publications
ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters, and conference proceedings)
Dates of publications
Names of publishers
Names of co-authors
Number of pages
The works should be categorized into:
Books
Book chapters
Refereed journals
Non-refereed works
Consultancies
