Duties and Responsibilities

The UCL Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering (CEGE) is a multidisciplinary department with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. CEGE is home to a world-class geospatial sciences team with multidisciplinary strengths in Spatio-Temporal Data Analytics, Geographical Information Science (GIS), Building Information Modelling, Positioning and Navigation.

Applications are invited for an expert in the field of Applied Machine Learning at the level of Lecturer (Grade 8) or Associate Professor (Grade 9). The postholder will have responsibility for developing and leading cutting-edge research, developing relationships with industry for grant applications and industrial proposals, and designing, teaching and assessing machine learning courses and modules in CEGE, contributing to the transformation of knowledge into practice and learning.

Appointment at Lecturer (Grade 8) or Associate Professor (Grade 9) will be commensurate with accomplishment and experience in relation to the published criteria.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have, or will be about to receive, a PhD in Geomatics, Computer Science or other area related to machine learning, and have knowledge of and experience in core machine learning algorithms, and of spatial / GIS programming, preferably in Python. Experience of applying machine learning to real-world problems and an excellent track record of publications is also essential. Relevant teaching experience in Higher Education, knowledge of and experience in deep learning and AI, and experience of using GIS packages and tools, would be an advantage.
