Hardware / Software Electronics Engineer (80 - 100%)

As an University research institute, we are at the forefront of space research. Our scientific work enjoys an excellent international reputation. We develop scientific instruments for ESA and NASA space probes. We maintain complex, self-developed facilities for their testing and calibration. Swiss industrial companies and foreign research institutes are our project partners.

Your focus will be on the development of specific Hardware Electronics in space area, based on flight-proven circuitry. Additionally you would support the electrical system engineer in his tasks of elaborating the detailed requirements.

The position comprises following tasks:

• Support for Software Application Engineering (C/C++) including verification and testing
• Supporting of FPGA Development (VHDL) for digital electronic applications, and its optimisation for the requirements of space research
• Supporting the development of hardware digital electronics, especially in the area of FPGA, and its optimisation for the requirements of space research
• Tests and qualifications of space instruments according to European and American Standards Requirements
• Establishing test reports for internal and external partners
• Execution of the work and documentation according to ECSS standards
• Reporting and participating in technical meetings and reviews in an international environment
The position requires sound experience in the development of analogue / digital electronics and the handling of complex development projects. Further experience in the development of low power / medium level voltage (up to a few hundred volts) electronics would be a benefit. Familiarity with the space environment and knowledge of the ECSS standards would be an advantage.
Good spoken and written knowledge of English is required. German would be an advantage.
The position is available immediately for an initial period of two years with option of extension up to eight years. Employment according to cantonal regulations.
