Profile and Experience

  • Experience:
    • You have a Professional Bachelor or Master degree in (bio) engineering sciences, industrial sciences, design and production technology or electromechanics. Other diplomas are also eligible if there is sufficient knowledge of the subject. A doctoral training or other research experience is a plus.
    • You have a passion for and experience in production technology and machine building, knowledge of Additive Manufacturing (3D printing), machining techniques (milling), CNC machines and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Understanding material behavior and production process optimization is a plus.
    • You have experience with independently conducting research, including: preparing experiments, collecting data and analyzing experimental results.
    • You are able to convert knowledge from literature (academic knowledge) into practical tests and to link it to results on industrial / business-relevant case studies.
    • You are willing to travel.
    • You have a good command of English both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of German is an additional plus.
    • You may be willing to teach in the courses.

Content of the Assignment  

A few new research projects are starting at Thomas More within the domain of design & production technology. For the further development of our team, we are looking for a researcher specialized in practice-oriented research into hybrid production processes, in which we will combine 3D printing with machining techniques (such as milling) to arrive at high-quality finished products. You conduct research within an international framework (Germany, Switzerland and Austria), further develop the network with a view to tapping into new opportunities for Thomas More, and you provide knowledge building on this theme within and outside the university. You will end up in a dynamic learning and working environment where you will have the opportunity to participate in innovations every day.

Your Duties:

  • You lead and conduct practice-oriented research in the field of hybrid production technology. You work in different, multidisciplinary projects with other researchers, partners from the professional field and with the Thomas More courses.
  • You set up experiments, collect and process data, and possibly explore the possibilities for new research.
  • You disseminate results and you translate them into usable applications or strategic advice. You provide assistance in services.
  • You are an enthusiastic ambassador of Thomas More and you expand the network of contacts of the research group.
  • You want to achieve top quality and build the growth of the research group with the team.
  • You work together with students and teachers from the programs and thus contribute to state-of-the-art education at Thomas More.


Full-time employment as a contractual research assistant

Scale: 316 (bachelor) or 502 (master), depending on diploma

Fixed-term appointment from 01/09/2019 to 31/08/2020, extension possible
