The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a

Full Professorship (W3) for Computer Architecture (Successor of Prof. Becker)
in the Department of Computer Science.
Fulltime position, Start-date: 01.04.2021

The professorship shall focus both in research and teaching in the field of computer architecture. Candidates must have an excellent track record in at least one and preferably a combination of multiple of the following research fields: 

  • hardware design (theory and practice)
  • hardware/software co-design
  • testing and verification
  • security
  • embedded systems / cyber-physical systems
  • parallel systems

Strong candidates follow a research strategy that includes well-founded basic research in combination with convincing application cases with reference to practical implementations. The university expects interest in the collaboration with other professorships at the department as well as in introductory courses and continuing education programs. Plans for cooperation within one of the clusters of excellence or the Centre for Security and Society are appreciated.


Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.
