General Information

Université Laval is a vibrant community in the heart of Quebec City, a comprehensive university with a population of more than 45000 students, recognized for its leadership and its culture of excellence both in teaching and research.


The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Université Laval, aims to fill a tenure-track professor position in the field of industrial engineering – industry 4.0. The Department of Mechanical Engineering includes 24 professors supervising over 600 undergraduate students and over a hundred graduate students. The Department offers various programs of study, including an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, an undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering as well as several graduate programs. The Department of Mechanical Engineering hosts a Canada Research Chair in Operations Research in Natural Resources, as well as FORAC Research Consortium, working in the field of the integrated management of the value chain, the collaborative business planning, the management mechanisms for demand and revenues in the forest products industry. Some of our faculty members are also active members of the Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation (CIRRELT).


Position Description

The chosen candidate will be expected to:

  • develop research activities in the field of Industrial Engineering, oriented towards the area of Industry 4.0
  • write grant proposals and obtain funding, and establish industrial research partnerships
  • conduct innovative research and publish results in scientific journals
  • teach Industrial Engineering undergraduate and graduate courses
  • supervise graduate students
  • participate in administrative and academic duties and contribute to departmental life


Selection Criteria

The candidate must have research expertise in Industrial Engineering, as well as relevant experience in teaching. The qualified candidates fitting the description of the position will be selected according to the following criteria:


  • Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a related field, and high quality academic background
  • Ability or potential to excel in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Ability to conduct research work demonstrated by research funding, scholarships and/or relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals in the field of Industrial Engineering – Industry 4.0 or in a related field
  • Potential to establish research activities in the field of Industrial Engineering, oriented towards Industry 4.0
  • Ability to teach in French
  • To be a member (P. Eng.) of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (the Quebec Corporation of Engineers) or take the required actions to become one, within two years after taking the position
  • Potential of integration and synergy with the current faculty members


Hiring and salary

Academic rank will be assessed according to experience and salary will be determined according to the collective agreement in place at the time of hire.
