EPSRC iCASE Studentship - Conducting Polymer Electrodes for Interfacing with the Brain

A studentship is available in the area of implantable electronics. Conducting polymer-based electrodes are being used for recording and stimulating the central and peripheral nervous system in order to understand and treat neurological disease. The aim of this project is to understand how the fundamental properties of these electrodes determine recording/stimulation efficiency and device lifetime. Work will involve fabrication of electrodes using lithography and additive manufacturing techniques, and characterisation of their properties including biocompatibility, impedance, noise and stability. Candidates with a degree in physical sciences/engineering are invited to apply. Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment and microfabrication experience are a plus.

Applicants should have (or expect to obtain by the start date) at least a good 2.1 degree in an Engineering or related subject.
