Duties and responsibilities
  • High level research in applying remote sensing methods in solving different scientific problems in coastal and inland waters.
  • Collecting and analysing remote sensing and bio-optical data.
  • Creating and managing databases.
  • Planning and participation in fieldwork and laboratory experiments.
  • Maintenance and further development of scientific instruments and sampling equipment available in the Department.
  • Calibration of optical sensors.
  • Publishing results in high level scientific journals and participation in international conferences.
  • Supervising Masters and PhD students as well as younger researchers.
  • Acquiring funding for your own research.
  • Popularisation of the specialisation.
Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification. Completed postdoctoral studies.
 
Required experience
  • Capability to lead research projects.
  • High level internationally acknowledged research in the field of the lake and coastal water remote sensing and optics (first or co-author for at least five 1.1 articles within last five years).
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience in supervising students.
  • Work experience in research institutions outside Estonia.
  • Good skills in programming (MatLab, R, Python, Javascript) and the ability to configure programs written in Java.
  • Additionally, experience with the development and exploitation of PostgreSQL or SQLite databases together with creating a web interface.
  • Experience in using image processing software (like ENVI, SNAP, etc.), and in carrying out international bio-optical laboratory and field experiments (both on lakes and on sea) together with finding match-up times for necessary satellites.
  • Knowledge about main principles of bio-optical instrumentation used in the Department.
  • Experience with calibration and characterisation of bio-optical instruments.
Required language skills
The candidates’ Estonian and English skills must be sufficient for communication in his/her speciality.
