Professor/ Associate Professor in Water Resources Engineering (Contract Position)

Vacancy No: Fet/Ce 5/2020

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Water Resources Engineering (viz: Hydraulics, Fluid mechanics, Engineering Hydrology, Water Engineering, Dam Design) and any other related subjects; (ii) supervise both undergraduate and graduate student research projects; (iii) conduct research in their area of expertise; (iv) participate in the academic and professional activities of the Department; (v) carry out administrative and other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements:

Professor: The candidate should have: (i) a Ph.D in Water Resources Engineering or equivalent with a Master’s Degree in Water and Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering or a related discipline (with a bias towards hydrology and water resources) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; (ii) must be registered or eligible to be registered with a relevant professional engineering body; (iii) at least 9 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iv) have a minimum of 24 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers. 12 of these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining 12 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers; (v) An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality of standing (vi) sustained research output: a minimum of 3 peer reviewed publications every four years; (vii) Sustained research activity: on-going externally supported research (e.g. funded/commissioned); (viii) paper/poster presentations at international conferences at least once every two years; (ix) be lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter of the required journal publications. There should also be evidence of mentorship of early career scholars/graduate students; (x) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (xi) significant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc. (required in at least 3 of the these); (xii) acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer review of new research proposals; reference in research committees; editor/guest editor/reviewer of refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field; invitations as keynote speaker at national and international/symposia (required in at least 3 of the these); (xiii) evidence of governance and social engagement; (xiv) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations; (xv) research collaboration with cognate disciplines in the University; (xvi) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses internationally. The following will be added advantages: (i) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (ii) evidence of teaching and research in water resources system engineering and/or climate modelling.

Associate Professor: Candidates should have: (i) a Ph.D in Water Resources Engineering or equivalent with a Master’s Degree in Water and Environmental Engineering or Water Resources Engineering or a related discipline (with a bias towards hydrology and water resources) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; (ii) must be registered or eligible to be registered with a relevant professional engineering body;  (iii) at least 6 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iv) a minimum of 12 pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc.) published by recognized publishers. 8 of these must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases. The remaining 4 publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (v) sustained research output: a minimum of 2 peer reviewed publications every 3 years; (vi) sustained research activity; ongoing externally supported research (e.g funded or commissioned); (vii) regular paper/poster presentations at national but also increasingly at international conferences; (viii) be lead and/or single author in at least one-third of the required journal publications. The curriculum vitae should contain a detailed list of published works, clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates of publications, names of publishers, name/s of co-authors if any and number of pages. The works should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journals, non-refereed works and consultancies. The CV should also provide a detailed list of courses (if any) ever taught.
