Job description

The University of Stavanger invites applicants for a position as Associate Professor in Computer Science (Cyber Security) at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The position is open for appointment from 1. August 2021.

The subject area for the position is Computer Science with focus on Cyber Security.
The hired candidate will primarily teach and supervise students at bachelor's, master's and PhD level within the subject area, conduct research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the department, and contribute to the development of partnerships with business.

The development/use of digital and diverse learning methods, innovation, value creation based on results from research, and academic development work, will be included in the position.

Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (IDE) at Faculty of Science and Technology has 60 employees and 800 students.

IDE is responsible for the Bachelor's and Master's program in Computer Science and the Master's program in Applied Data Science, in addition to Bachelor's and Master's studies in Electrical Engineering. There is also a PhD program that covers all the subject areas at the department.
IDE is also responsible for teaching programming for all engineering students at the faculty. IDE also hosts Stavanger AI Lab, which brings together UiS's activity in research, education and innovation in artificial intelligence. At the department, there are currently 9 research groups, most of which have an affiliation with Stavanger AI Lab.

The department conducts research on artificial intelligence (AI) in medical signal and image analysis, AI in text-based sources (NLP), distributed systems, blockchain technology, communication technology with a special focus on 5G, ICT in tunnel security, data security, cloud technology, ICT in smart cities, systems biology and cybernetics. IDE is involved in administration of two on-campus datacenters and has direct
connection to remote infrastructure at the Green Mountain Datacenter.

Qualification requirements

We are seeking an Associate Professor with a PhD or equivalent qualification in Computer Science or similar.
We are in particular interested in candidates with research focus in any of the following areas:

security analytics critical infrastructures (e.g. smart grid, datacenters)
information security
network security
software security
applied cryptography
application of machine learning for security

You must be able to document active, ongoing research at a high academic level and have the potential for future high-level research in the subject area.

The successful candidate is expected to teach and supervise both undergraduate and graduate students in all programs offered by the department.

It is expected that you have a reflective and conscientious attitude towards your own teaching and supervision. You must be able to document pedagogical and didactic skills relating to higher education, and basic skills in planning, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. If you do not meet the competence requirement you must complete a university pedagogy course within a period of two years of the appointment start date. The course will be provided by the university.

Norwegian is the language mainly used at UiS. The working and teaching languages are Norwegian and English. It is expected that you can teach and supervise in Norwegian (equivalent to level B2), or another Scandinavian language, within a period of three years from accession. If required, you will be offered a Norwegian course paid for by the university.

In the absence of applicants with sufficient scientific expertise, the university may consider temporarily employment for up to three years, during
which time he/she will endeavour to gain the qualifications necessary for a permanent position. You must be considered capable of gaining the
necessary qualifications during the period of employment.
