The Water Resources Engineering Group constitutes a core portion of the Civil Engineering Department and has established collaborations both within the Department and Faculty and with external industry and other Canadian research networks. Its funding comes from NSERC, the Province of Manitoba, the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro, and other industries. The Water Resources Engineering Group has a state of the art Hydraulics Research and Testing Facility that includes recently upgraded teaching laboratories. The Department of Civil Engineering (www.umanitoba.ca/civil) has twenty two faculty members, thirteen support staff, and approximately two hundred and seventy undergraduate and one hundred and sixty graduate students. Approximately thirty percent of faculty members and thirty percent of students at both the graduate and undergraduate level are female. The University of Manitoba is a research-intensive university.
