About the Position

The University of Stavanger has a three-year vacancy as associate professor in biological chemistry. 

The subject area for the position is biological chemistry - preferably with expertise within the subject section's activities within biological chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and bioinformatics.

As an associate professor, you will mainly teach and guide students at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral level within the field of biological chemistry, research and disseminate research results within relevant research areas at the department, and contribute to the development of cooperation with the working life.

The development of varied and digital learning methods in teaching, innovation and value creation based on results from research and professional development work.

Professional Community

The temporary office is organizationally affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Chemistry, Biosciences and Environmental Technology, subject group for biological chemistry.

The subject group runs biochemical, molecular biology, biotechnology research and innovation at an international level. The research covers a wide range of biological chemistry.


Eligibility Requirements

We are looking for associate professors with a doctorate or equivalent expertise in the field.

Applicants with specialization in bioinformatics and molecular biology are preferred, but applicants with specialization in neighboring areas may also be relevant candidates.

The person who is employed must document qualifications as an independent researcher at international level related to one or more of the subject section's activities. Furthermore, sufficient academic breadth in the subject area documents to be able to teach central subjects at the bachelor and master level and supervise tasks at all levels.

You should be able to document pedagogical and didactic competence related to higher education.

The working and teaching language is Norwegian and English. The person employed should master Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. It is assumed that the person who is employed master English.

Furthermore, emphasis is placed on the fact that you have

  • a reflected and conscious attitude to one's own teaching and guidance activities
  • ability to involve and engage students in teaching where educational goals, content and assessment situations are closely linked
  • experience with and / or interest in the development and use of varied learning methods and digital tools in teaching
  • disseminated research results in recognized Norwegian and international publication channels, and that you can point to progression in research and publishing
  • ability to initiate, obtain external funding for, operate and carry out research and development projects
  • experience from working with the working life
  • ability to build and maintain networks - regionally, nationally and internationally
  • experience with innovation, innovation and commercialization of research
  • High working capacity, is curious and motivated to develop new knowledge with others
  • good collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to contribute to a constructive working environment

General Information

Your application will be reviewed by an expert committee. The main emphasis in the expert assessment is on evaluation of submitted scientific work and documented teaching and educational expertise. Experience from popularization / dissemination activities, subject political and academic administration work and any other documented qualifications relevant to the position will also be assessed by the experts.

If you do not satisfy central parts of the competence requirements, you may have the application rejected before applications are submitted to the expert committee for assessment.

On the basis of the expert committee's statement, relevant applicants will be invited to interview and trial teaching before the recommendation is submitted.

The university will recruit more women to associate professorships in the field. If several applicants are considered to have equal qualifications, a woman will be given priority over a man.

It is a condition that the person who is hired settles so that he or she can be present at, and available to, the academic community in the workplace during ordinary working hours.
