The University’s College of Engineering, Science and Environment brings together expertise in engineering, the sciences and the environment, to deliver life-ready graduates and transformative solutions to our region and the world. A number of pioneering inventions have also been developed within the School of Engineering, which have been patented and commercialised. The School of Engineering is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University and consists of four major Discipline groupings, covering a broad range of engineering specialisations. The School’s research focus ensures that students are exposed to cutting edge, world-class thinking and are taught by staff who are at the forefront of developments in their chosen field.


Aerospace Systems Engineering is the fastest growing and highest demand sub-discipline in aerospace engineering and the associate professor role represents a unique opportunity to lead the only Australian university aerospace engineering program working and teaching in this area, in the region with the highest density of industry customers needing these skills. RAAF Base Williamtown, the RAAF’s command, operations, and training base for the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), and the Williamtown Aerospace Centre (WAC) with a presence of the main systems integration companies supporting new RAAF aircraft and projects, are located in the Hunter region.  This role represents an exciting opportunity to seek and develop partnerships with these important industries and to help teach a discipline of the future with a rapidly growing student cohort.


Recent notable School of Engineering student achievements include: 94% of our Engineering undergraduates finding employment within four months, being rated number one in Australia for the quality of overall experience for undergraduate Engineering students; and in 2020, being ranked number one in NSW for educational experience and median salaries. 


The Associate Professor in Aerospace Systems Engineering will provide educational and research leadership, including industry engagement for the University’s new undergraduate Aerospace Systems Engineering Program. The successful candidate will promote excellence in the delivery of high-quality student-centred learning and teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students and develop a research program to contribute to high-quality research outcomes in emerging high-impact research areas relevant to Aerospace Systems Engineering. The successful applicant will strive to make a positive contribution to a culture of innovation and experience for students and to engage and work with industry on challenging research problems.

How will you become part of our research community?  


A highly experienced academic, with significant experience in managing and administering a similar Aerospace program, you also have vast knowledge of using newer educational technologies. You have well-developed experience with aerospace systems, avionics and/or flight simulation and you have an excellent research track record in the field of Aerospace Systems/Aeronautical Engineering. Your proven experience in industry engagement is supported with your sound industry connections and the ability to maintain existing and establish new industry relationships.



How will we support you?


The remuneration is $152,252 to $167,731*, plus 17% superannuation.
