The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions in the following areas within Mechanical Engineering:

I.   Fluid/Thermal Sciences: May include all areas.

II.  Robotics and Automation: May include social robotics, autonomous transportation/surveillance vehicles, manufacturing robotics, medical robotics, field/service robotics, micromanipulators and other emerging robotic applications.

III. Manufacturing and Design: May include design for manufacturing, flexible manufacturing including rapid and dieless manufacturing, micro/nanomanufacturing and similarly related fields in advanced manufacturing.

IV.  Energy Storage: Main emphasis on battery.


Candidates must indicate clearly in their cover letter one of the above areas for which they wish to be considered. Successful applicants are required to have an earned PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, and are expected to develop and maintain an active, externally-funded research program as well as teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Individuals will also be considered at associate or full professor rank if they possess outstanding qualifications commensurate with the rank. 


The Department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and currently has an undergraduate enrollment of about 770 and a graduate enrollment of about 400.  More information about the Department can be found at  Applicants are required to send a letter of application indicating their qualifications, an up-to-date CV including the names and contact information of three references, and separate one-page statements outlining their future teaching and research plans.
