Assistant/associate/full professor (tenure track) in industrial informatics for energy system disruption

LUT School of Energy Systems is looking for a professor in Industrial informatics for energy system disruption.

The position is situated at the assistant/associate/ full professor levels of the tenure track system and it will be filled for a fixed four-year term (assistant/associate professor) or permanently (full professor). 

The professorship in industrial informatics constitutes an independent chair within its area of expertise. It is a part of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the LUT School of Energy Systems. The professorship will be located in Lappeenranta.

The professorship will focus on industrial informatics and IoT solutions applied to future emission-free energy systems at all levels,

from individual subsystems to dynamically evolving systems of systems. The research group headed by the professor will work in close cooperation with other professors and teams at the department. The closest one topic-wise will be the Laboratory of Control Engineering and Digital Systems, which is dedicated to achieving high energy efficiency, high performance, reliability, safety, and new functionalities in sophisticated, electrically powered industrial unit processes and machinery.  The research team uses different mathematical methods for analysis and design to create, for example, computational algorithms in embedded systems and real-life applications.

Other professors at the Department of Electrical Engineering focus on electricity markets, smart grids, electrical machines and drives, power electronics, energy efficiency, IoT in energy systems, solar economy, applied electronics, energy storages, applied control engineering and wind power technology.

Applicants must have proven expertise in one or more of the following fields:

  • modern automation systems, cloud-based engineering, cyber physical systems related to industrial information systems 
  • virtual design and digital twins, cloud and edge computing and related software architectures
  • machine learning, artificial intelligence, optimisation, time series analysis, system identification
  • industrial systems including machinery and process automation, energy systems, future electrified vehicle applications and related infrastructure.

The appointed applicant must possess a strong scientific research background in some of the mentioned research fields. The research focus of the applicant has to support the existing research activities at LUT. Evidence of the ability to acquire research funding, the successful management of projects and cooperation with relevant research institutes, companies and other stakeholders will also be considered an important merit. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to integrate into the strategic blueprint of LUT's electrical engineering unit and to lead the people of his/her own research group.

The professorship of industrial informatics and IoT solutions for energy technology disruption will include teaching obligations in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes related to Industry 4.0.

  • A curriculum vitae (max. 10 pages)
  • A copy of your doctoral diploma
  • A full list of publications, including the total number of publications in the Scopus database, the total number of citations, the h-index and Scopus ID. In addition, equivalent information from your Google Scholar profile is required
  • A separate list of the publications submitted for expert evaluation
  • Publications for evaluation by experts (max. 10) 
  • A teaching portfolio or an equivalent account of your teaching qualifications
  • An account of your merits and activities of significance to the vacancy (max. 3 pages)
  • An account of your vision on the development of education, research and projects in the field of the professorship at LUT University (max. 3 pages).

Please specify the tenure track level applied to. The work starts with a six-month trial period.

The salary is determined according to the salary system for university teaching and research personnel. The pay will include an individual pay component based on performance and competence. The annual salary range of assistant/associate professors is approximately 42000–79200 euros (gross income including holiday bonus), and that of full professors is 68400–103200 euros depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
