Assistant/Associate Professor of Optical Engineering

Applications are invited for a University Assistant/Associate Professor in Optical Engineering. The successful candidate will join the Engineering Department's Electrical Engineering Division in West Cambridge to add to its broad expertise in photonics, which spans from fundamental work on materials, devices and fabrication through to applications in areas as diverse as quantum communications, photonic integrated circuits and displays.

Products that enable an immersive virtual or augmented reality experience will be enabled by a new generation of optically enabled infrastructure. This will require a system-based engineering approach. Optical sub-systems integratings intelligent algorithms will be needed addressing data communications and switching, optical computing, spectrum processing and sensing in addition to hardware above the physical layer in a communication system. We are looking for applicants who will address the engineering challenges associated with developing these optical systems of the future.

In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a small supplement to the salary range stated for this role for a five-year period. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement and is entirely at the discretion of the University.
