Position Overview

Purdue University is seeking exceptional candidates for the new Purdue Computes initiative, which integrates Computing, Physical AI, and Semiconductors. The position focuses on AI hardware design, particularly:

  • Computer architecture for AI systems

  • Integrated circuits and systems

  • Next-generation computing systems

The successful candidate will develop an independent research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, and contribute to service at department, college, and university levels.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline by the start date.

  • Evidence of initiating independent research (early-career) or sustained independent research and mentoring (mid-career).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct original research in AI hardware

  • Advise graduate students

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses

  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service


School & Research Environment

The Elmore Family School of ECE is one of the largest in the nation:

  • 120+ faculty members (6 NAE members, 40+ Fellows in professional societies)

  • 2,200 undergraduates and 1,500 graduate students

  • Home to NSF NCN (nanoHUB), C-BRIC, and ICON

  • Leads the Birck Nanotechnology Center and multiple NSF ERC research programs

Faculty collaborate closely with industry partners such as Saab, Rolls-Royce, GE Aviation, and SK Hynix, which plans a ~$4B facility for advanced packaging and R&D in West Lafayette.
