Your Role

The University of Luxembourg (UL) will establish a new Interdisciplinary Space Master (ISM www.ism.uni.lu) that will start in September, 2019. The ISM targets teaching and learning in space subjects to graduate individuals who will have the skills to contribute to the Luxembourg space industry or who may desire to build their own start-ups.

We are looking for an Assistant Professor to contribute to the ISM. The new hire will be affiliated with the Computer Science (CSC) Research Unit. We seek a dynamic individual with documented research experience in space informatics (machine learning, AI, or big data applications) or autonomous space systems as well as experience acquiring research funding. The new hire is expected to 
1) collaborate with existing professors in the CSC research unit and the SNT Interdisciplinary Center; 2) and to build collaborative research projects with Luxembourg Industry.

Your Profile

A dynamic individual with an international research profile in space informatics (machine learning, AI, or big data applications) or autonomous space systems

  • An individual who is committed to quality teaching preferably space related topics at the undergraduate and the postgraduate level
  • An individual with a commitment to quality student supervision and continuing professional development

Qualifications, experience, aptitude

  • PhD degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field
  • A portfolio of peer reviewed research with a focus on space informatics or autonomous space systems
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching preferably space related topics at the undergraduate and the postgraduate level
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality student supervision and continuing professional development
  • A minimum of three years post-doctoral experience at a university or comparable research centre;
  • An appropriate international research profile as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations and the collaboration in international research initiatives;
  • University-level teaching experience; postgraduate level teaching experience;
  • Experience in acquiring research funding and managing funded research projects;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and management skills


The position is initially for 5 years and upon a positive evaluation, the assistant professor may be promoted to associate professor. 

Languages


The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and in one of the two official languages of Luxembourg: French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other official language and provides access to language courses to this end.
