Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Computer Science Education

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Computer Science Education« to begin in summer semester 2021. The position is a W2 fixed-term (6 year) tenure-track professorship with the possibility for promotion to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor).

Scientific Environment

The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Education (EDU) and will be affiliated with the TUM Department of Informatics. The TUM School of Education is one of Germany’s most innovative institutions for teacher education and educational research. We offer bachelor’s and master’s programs for pre-service teachers in vocational schools and secondary schools (“Gymnasium”). We cooperate with most departments of the Technical University of Munich and collaborate with a vast network of schools in the Munich area. We provide an excellent study environment at the cutting edge of scientific research and hands-on experience.


The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of computer science education. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor’s and master’s programs. The candidate is expected to develop and implement the curricula in cooperation with the TUM School of Education and other departments. Additionally the responsibilities include the teaching of research-based pedagogical content knowledge with relevance for classroom practice in the faculty study programs in higher secondary and vocational education. Research should put an emphasis on quantitative empirical teaching research (e. g. design and evaluation of computer science classrooms) with an interdisciplinary focus.


We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. The acquisition of a qualification, which is demanded for computer science education in schools, and teaching experience in schools or another comparable educational institution for three years should be proven. The proven ability to start and lead cooperative research projects and to attract external funding is a prerequisite.
