Position Description

The Department of Computer Science in the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a broad area search, particularly inviting applicants from all subareas of Computer Science and Engineering, with specific interest in Robotics and Systems.

The Department of Computer Science (cs.uchicago.edu) is a hub for a large, diverse community of researchers advancing the foundations of computing and its most advanced applications. The broader computer science community at UChicago includes:

• The Data Science Institute (jointly run by the Departments of Computer Science and Statistics)

• Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC)

• Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation

• Argonne National Laboratory

Connections across disciplines are strongly encouraged, including bioinformatics, data science, mathematics, molecular engineering, linguistics, statistics, public policy, and social science. The University promotes a highly collaborative culture.

UChicago is undertaking a multi-year effort to expand computing, data science, and AI activities, providing junior faculty an opportunity to shape the department’s future trajectory. The Department is housed in a new, state-of-the-art building designed to foster collaboration and experimentation.

• Teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students

Qualifications

• Completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field is required at the time of appointment.
