Applications are invited for the position of Associate Professor/Professor of Project Management in the Department of Civil Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering offers two graduate programmes in project management namely a Master of Science in Project Management (M. Sc. PM) and a PhD in Project Management.  The Department is looking for a senior academic to complement its teaching team to develop and deliver the two programmes into reputable academic and professional qualifications in Botswana and beyond.

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach M. Sc. PM courses; (ii) supervise research leading to a M. Sc. PM dissertation and a PhD thesis; (iii) initiate, promote and participate in research activities in project management; (iv) provide academic leadership and act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (vi) raise/ solicit research funds from funding agencies within and outside the country; (vii) develop collaborative relationships with other colleagues in academia and industry within and outside the country; (viii participate in all academic and professional activities of the department; and (ix) carry out any other academic and administrative responsibilities as and when assigned by the Head of Department.

Associate Professor Requirements: Candidates should have a (i) bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Built Environment obtained from a recognized university; (ii)  a Master’s Degree in Project Management from a recognized university;  (iii) a PhD in Project Management, or cognitive degree, from a recognized university;  (iv) at least six (6) years relevant teaching experience at a university or  comparable institution; (v)  an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least twelve (12) pieces of research products (e.g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc), published by recognized publishers. Eight (8) of which must be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases The remaining four (4) publications could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of four (4) articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (vi) sustained research output: a minimum of two (2) peer reviewed publication every three(3) years; (vii) sustained research activity; ongoing externally supported research (e.g. funded or commissioned); (viii) regular  scholarly paper/poster presentations at national and/or international conferences; (ix) be lead and/or single author in at least one-third (1/3) of the journal articles; There should also be some evidence of  early career  scholars/graduate students (x) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (xi) recognisable research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc., (required in at least 2 of the these); (xii) recognized as being of at national but increasing becoming of international research standing (e.g. peer reviewing of new research proposals; reference in research committee; editor/guest editor/reviewer for refereed/accredited national and international publisher; editorial board member of an international publisher in a relevant field;  invitations as keynote speaker at national and international conference, (required in at least 2 of the these); (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations (required); and research collaborations with cognitive disciplines in the Univeristy (required); (xiv); successful supervision of two (2) Masters or co-supervision of four (4) Masters students or supervision of one  (1) PhD or  co-supervision of  two (2) PhD students; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses nationally and/or internationally (required);  (xvi) registered or eligible for registration with Botswana Qualifications Authority as an Assessor/Moderator (xvii) evidence of governance and social engagement. Research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate will be an added advantage.

An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of four (4) articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; (vi) sustained research output: a minimum of three (3) peer reviewed publication every four (4) years; (vii) sustained research activity; ongoing externally supported research (e.g. funded or commissioned); (viii) regular  scholarly paper/poster presentations at national and/or international conferences; (ix) be lead and/or single author in at least one-quarter (¼) of the journal articles; There should also be some evidence of early career scholars/graduate students (x) publications should be spread internationally and across journals; (xi) significant research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions etc., (required in at least 3 of the these); (xii) Acknowledged by peers as being of national and international research standing (e.g. peer reviewing of new research proposals; reference in research committee; editor/guest editor/reviewer for refereed/accredited national and international publishers; editorial board member of international publishers in a relevant field;  invitations as keynote speaker at national and international conference, (required in at least 3 of the these); (xiii) research collaborations with other institutions or organisations (required); and research collaborations with cognitive disciplines in the Univeristy (required); (xiv); successful supervision of four (4) Masters or co-supervision of six (6) Masters students or supervision of two (2) PhD or  co-supervision of  four (4) PhD students; (xv) external examiner for Masters and/or PhD theses nationally and/or internationally (required);  (xvi) registered or eligible for registration with Botswana Qualifications Authority as an Assessor/Moderator; and (xvii) evidence of governance and social engagement. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications: clearly specifying titles of publications, dates published, name(s) of publishers, name(s) of co-authors if any and the page numbers. The publications should be categorized as: books, monographs, chapters in books, refereed and non-refereed journals, consultancies etc. The CV should also have a detailed list of courses taught and the levels (undergraduate or graduate) for which they were taught.
