The Laboratory for Acoustics and Vibration Analysis (LAVA) (http://lava.polymtl.ca) and laboratory for Multiscale Mechanics (LM2) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal are seeking talented and motivated PhD and Post-doctoral candidates to participate in a five-year collaborative project dealing with noise reduction in the vicinity of fan blades of civil aircraft engines using porous materials. The project is supported by a well-known aerospace engine manufacturer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to integrate an international and multidisciplinary team specialized in acoustics, applied chemistry, advanced manufacturing and modelling. 

Responsibilities

  • Carry out research project under the supervision of the professors
  • Participate in meetings (group meetings and other activities, teleconference with the industrial partner)
  • Writing technical reports and scientific papers

Position descriptions

We are currently looking for 1 PhD and 2 Post-doc researchers to fill various roles within our team

Post-doctoral position 1: Development of stochastic foam for aerospace industry

PhD in polymer chemistry with experience in foaming processes and polymer processing. The candidate will be expected to work independently and also function effectively in a multidisciplinary team.  The successful candidate must show strong communication and writing skills

Starting date: Immediately

Post-doctoral position2:  Integration of complex acoustical concepts in aircraft engine fan case

PhD in material science/mechanical engineering/applied physics with experience in acoustics, modelling of porous materials and additive manufacturing. Experience with programming and design is an asset. The candidate will be expected to work independently and also function effectively in a multidisciplinary team.  The successful candidate must also show strong communication and writing skills.

Starting date: January 2020

PhD position: Optimization and integration of complex acoustical structures

Masters in mechanical engineering/applied physics with good knowledge of acoustics, additive manufacturing, strong programming skills (comsol, matlab, Python) and computer assisted design (CATIA) experience. The candidate will be expected to work independently and also function effectively in a multidisciplinary team. He must also show strong communication and writing skills.

Starting date: January 2019

Financial support

The annual salaries for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows will be $21000 and $60000, respectively
