Summary Description: The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University seeks applications for a position as an Associate Research Scientist. The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Steve Sun.

 

The Associate Research Scientist will work to further the research in non-equilibrium effects in wall-bounded flows both from a pure fluid-mechanics perspective, as well as in relation to its relevant civil and environmental engineering applications. You will be also expected occasionally supervise student projects related to the research and other topics within the scope of the research group. In addition, you might be asked to assist in the development and submission of research proposals to funding agencies offering sponsor research programs in areas related to the research.


School/Institute/Unit: Engineering and Applied Science, The Fu Foundation School of
Minimum Degree Required: Ph.D. or DES or Sc.D.


Minimum Qualifications:

 

All applicants MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered for the position. The Associate Research Scientist is a professional officer of research whose qualifications are equivalent to those of an assistant professor with at least 2 years prior experience. Associate Research Scientists are expected to be able to coordinate independent research in the area of their training.

 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Independent research capability is of high value.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Mechanics
